FOR GROUPS

Our process of planting is simple. We have four stages: 1) Discern, 2) Prepare, 3) Launch, and 4) Multiply. The specific steps in each stage are listed below. If you have any questions regarding the steps or stages, please feel free to contact us and we'd love to help.

Please note that every plant is different. You may go through steps in a different order and in different timeframes. As well, depeding on the model you choose, some of these steps will be different. This pathway is only a "guide" to help you think through the process of launching a new church.

STAGE 1: DISCERN

STEP 1:  MEET

  • Make an appointment for an initial interview with the ECO Church Planting Office.

STEP 2:  LEARN & PRAY

  • Read up on church planting.
  • Talk with church planters and church plants to hear their story.
  •  Spend significant time in prayer to discern if God is leading your group to become a church plant.

STEP 3:  APPLY

  • If recommended by the  ECO Church Planting Office, apply to become an official ECO Church Plant.

STEP 4:  APPROVAL

  • If the Presbytery approves the church plant, the group will then be considered an official ECO plant.

STAGE 2: PREPARE

9-12 MONTHS

STEP 1:  RECRUIT & TRAIN

  • Identify and recruit a lead planter/pastor as soon as possible. The lead planter should then go through an official assessment.
  • Representatives of the new plant and the lead planter should get trained on the basics of church planting.

STEP 2:  CHURCH PLANTING & PROJECT PLAN

  • Create a Church Planting Plan (2-3 Page) * Should Include Plan to Multiply
  • Create a Project Management Plan.

STEP 3:  CREATE INFRASTRUCTURE

  • Establish infrastructure (EIN, Articles, 501 C3, Name, Website, etc.)
  • Establish essential ministries (E.g. small groups, children's ministry, welcoming). The type of ministries will depend on the church planting model.

STEP 4:  PARTNER

  • Connect with local ECO churches and the Presbytery.
  • Lead planter can begin process of Ordination through Presbytery (MPT). (Ordination Info - Click HERE).
  • Recruit prayer partners
  • Raise financial support (Bi-vocational church planters will have less to raise).
  • Find a coach for the lead planter  (ECO subsidy available)
  • Sign Church Planting Agreement.

STEP 5:  LEARN & GATHER

  • Learn and research your neighborhood.
  • Grow the core group (size will depend on church planting model).

STAGE 3: LAUNCH

STEP 1:  PROMOTE/OUTREACH

  • Begin reaching out to the community via relationships, outreach events, social gatherings.
  • Promote the church plant via social media, word of mouth, and possible advertising (for launch large models).

STEP 2:  PREVIEW SERVICES

  • For attractional, launch large (coventional) church planting models, hold Preview Services

STEP 3:  PUBLIC LAUNCH!

  • Start official public meetings (Launch!)

STAGE 4: MULTIPLY

STEP 1:  APPRENTICES

  • Look for and raise apprentices (future planters) from church plant.
  • Send apprentices through 4 Stages.

STEP 2:  INCUBATOR

  • Become a "incubator" for church planting by hosting church planting interest meetings and events and by creating internships and residencies for future planters.
